Read the 1st Part – Theories and Models of learning In Teaching
Learning and Assessment In Teaching
We can not consider behaviorism as one of the most healthy practices of learning. This conventional way of teaching is not effective as it is not designed with proper data and analysis. Here students bother about active participation in learning. The teacher is the only source of knowledge.
We can use cognitivism in the classroom as we can consider it an effective way of learning. The knowledge and experience complement each other in this process. The learners get involved in this process through orientation and assessment. Here a student can compare his/her past experience with the situation that the teacher has provided to them.
Social constructivism theory creates an environment for the students where they can come all together and work as a team. So that they can pull out the work and also help each other to grow. It teaches them how to take responsibilities, collaborate with people and convert them into results.
Multiple intelligence engages students a lot more than any other theory can do. It is more students centric and they are the most integral part of this process. This self-driven learning process can be very useful to the students.
As these theories are just theories, we can take a few ingredients from each of them and use it for the betterment of the learners. The teacher has to understand the needs of every individual and have to act according to that. A smart teacher can easily identify what the needs are and can set a goal for different individuals in order to improve them.
Analyze the Models of Learning Preferences
This theory is based on the NLP setting. It describes different kinds of learning processes like audio-visuals, kinesthetics, etc. According to Honey and Mumford active, reflectors, theorists and pragmatics are the way of learning. We can classify students into different categories. It is important not only to focus on the individual learning preference but also to acknowledge all the learning preferences which are valuable to higher studies. There are several ways by which the learner’s intellect can be increased. Here are a few ways:
- Visual Intelligence: This practice allows learners to be involved in certain things like drawing, mind mapping, critical thinking, etc. It makes them find similarities with the things that they are inhaling from the outer world.
- Verbal Intelligence: This theory allows us to acquire knowledge through talking, reading, debating, watching words, etc. It helps you to develop the ability of learning by analyzing all the information you get from these things.
- Logical Intelligence: If your mind can solve mathematical problems, calculate easily or solve equations with ease then you would probably have the ability to solve abstract problems.
- Bodily-kinaesthetic: It coordinates with your hand-eye and allows you to involve your body in learning. Through music, personal intelligence allows the body to feel about these things and gather knowledge from them.
Now it is important for a teacher to test the learners through different learning processes. But when it comes to a crowded classroom the teacher has to maintain the balance between groups.
Explain how identifying and taking account of learners’ individual learning preferences enables inclusive teaching, learning, and assessment
It is important to acknowledge all the learning preferences in the classroom. Combining all the different techniques in a structured way it helps to maximize learning. This practice supports the flow of the students. It also motivates them to learn and think critically. It allows students to take active participation and make work of all the senses as this multi-sensory environment helps students to remember things easily.
Multi-sensory teaching serves a purpose and enables the fact that teaching is an art. It should be nurtured so that it could get better. Learning becomes easy when all the senses take part in learning. We can take drawing classes, elaborate things after hearing the audio, arrange museum trips and practice classical music. You can take the students to historical places which can be an alternative option for learning. Even the artistic value increases a learner’s thinking and if they go to a theatre or an opera show, they may be able to use their senses a bit more. The multi-sensory approach allows learners to choose the best way of practice or which is suited to them. The best learning process would be the one where it can challenge the learners in every aspect. It also allows the learners to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
Learning is a way process. Students should involve themselves by asking questions. The pupil’s mind has to be free to practice healthy learning. And they need the freedom to give feedback to the teacher.
